I was really thinking about one thing I repeatedly see in my DMS. One thing I consistently see with regard to people who are struggling and one thing I am constantly asked to discuss in my guest podcasts is the topic of comparisonitis. If you're often at war with your inner imposter, chances are you experience extreme comparisonitis as well. Maybe seeing the progress and wins of other people in the online space only makes you more anxious and it only shines a light into how incompetent, unorganized and overwhelmed you feel. But you really want to cheer on your biz bestie. You really want to cheer on these women and really feel good about what you're doing!

One thing I want to say is comparisonitis will come in waves. So there are times where I'll just have a day where I feel like I'm doing the wrong thing, even though there's totally quotations on that, because...

Do you know that feeling you get when you're talking about your business to people who are in your real life and your personal life, so not your online life- where you have all these amazing internet, friends and Instagram friends that are doing the same thing as you. I'm talking about when you're at the lunch table at your full time job with all your coworkers or you're at a family function, and somebody is asking you about your business and you're feeling kind of small and insignificant, and you don't really know how to articulate and how to explain to your 85 year old granddad that what you do is help women with their confidence. You help them push their business forward by overcoming their fears and imposter syndrome. How do you explain that in a way that makes you feel confident and makes you feel good?

We all know that the more that we own these things and...

Why You Should Name Your Inner Imposter | Imposter Syndrome

So today's episode is going to be quite short, but it came up for me, especially because in this time in my life. I have found that balancing a full time job and being an entrepreneur on the side is very challenging. We're just going to jump right into it by the way, getting deep already. What came up for me was that I am constantly having to be productive and this is also related to some anxiety issues that I have in terms of feeling like my value in my worthiness is based on my doing.

I spend very little time just being, relaxing and just being okay with wherever I am, because I always feel like there's a future goal to achieve, or there's some world of success that I am not a part of yet, and that I just need to work as hard as I can to get to that place.. But that place doesn't exist.

I really wanted to talk about being okay with being where you're at and...

Your Coaching Package is Too Fluffy

I’m just going to serve you the tea today because I’m here to tell you that your coaching package is too goddamn FLUFFY.

So WHAT do I mean by this?

I bet that you’re a coach who’s having no success at selling your offer. Your first mistake is that you have too many offers on the go.  What I mean by this is when you’re first starting out or when you’re trying to really sell somebody, it’s so important to keep it SIMPLE.

Simplicity is something that people buy into. They want to buy because the offer is clear and simple, and the results are tangible.

I know what you’re thinking… I’m a life coach, I’m a mindset coach, I’m a confidence coach. I don’t have tangible results. Oh, you ABSOLUTELY do. When people feel better, they are their best selves, they show up differently and they take action...

Staying Motivated When Your Inner Imposter Shows Up

One of the ways Imposter Syndrome sabotages your business is by negatively affecting your motivation. You may feel this way because you’re insecure about your business, you sense that nobody wants your services, and you feel like no matter how much effort you put in, you’re not getting anything in return.

You push on thinking that your hard work is the only thing that determines your worth. If you happen to take a few days off it can create a feeling of being out of sorts because you start feeling insecure about yourself and you can’t pinpoint which direction you want to take your business in. That, in turn, can make you lose all motivation towards that particular project or trying to create new ideas. It can take the wind right out of your sail!

For example, let’s say you’re trying to come up with new content ideas for your Instagram, the...

If Your Content Feels Unoriginal

Imposter Syndrome can creep up in what seems like a million different ways, you can really feel like you’re on the struggle bus because there are so many ways it can show up in your life.

One of the ways it’s come through for me in the past was when I was trying to work on content. Content being the topics I’d want to talk about, the posts I’d want to make for social media, podcasts, etc. I would always think that the content I was putting out into the world was unoriginal, and that someone else had said all this before. It would go hand in hand with the fear that someone would call me out on a topic I spoke about because it wasn’t 100% my own. It made me fearful that my community would reject me.

It made me hold back some ideas that I had about a concept I would come across. I would see how it would apply to me but then I would never go through...

Procrastination: Save the Drama for your Mama

On the way to Vegas, I was reading Dr. Valerie Young’s The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women, it’s all about Imposter Syndrome. Dr.Young is one of the leading people when it comes to Imposter Syndrome research. She does talks on the subject, and you should take the time to look into her! The book includes a system called the “Seven Defense Mechanisms”. One of those defense mechanisms is procrastination, which is the topic of today’s blog!

I’ll be doing a blog post for each of the Seven Defense Mechanisms, so please keep an eye out for those!

I feel like we’ve all experienced procrastination at one time or another. If you haven’t procrastinated before- that’s amazing! Good for you! Although I feel students for example are a group of people who tend to have to deal with procrastination frequently, although it...

Three Ways Journaling Improves Your Life

If you would have asked me a year ago to crack open a notebook and start writing, I’d tell you that my hand gets sore after two minutes and that my writing is so bad, I can’t even read it sometimes (I did not get the girly writing gene). Journaling was something I did as a kid, and I distinctly remember keeping one on the first computer I ever had – I would talk about my day at school and how I was feeling, and at the end I would put an emotion as to how I feel that day was overall. Snaps for school-aged Jillian.

But as I became older and the digital age became more and more prominent, I wrote down my feelings less and less. We became consumed with things like social media, television, and other distractions that kept us occupied. This meant less time to think and ponder our thoughts. When I became a coach, I would see so many of my mentors in the entrepreneurial community talk about how beneficial journaling was; but still, I never jumped on the bandwagon.

How to Stop Feeling Like a Fraud

Are you letting imposter syndrome run your biz?

As I designed the template for the new version of my website, my excitement grew to anxiousness as I continued to add text, move pictures around, and hit Save whenever I finished a section. Thoughts began surfacing that I found all too familiar - Will anyone even buy this? Am I asking for too much? Who am I to charge others for my time? It was a mental dance that I knew all too well. After an hour, I shut my laptop down without finishing the page, feeling defeated.

I present to you, imposter syndrome in its worst form; self-sabotage.

Imposter syndrome is the psychological phenomenon in which a person doubts their abilities or accomplishments and has a persistent, internalized fear of being exposed as a fraud. This internalized fear is perpetuated by thoughts of inadequacy and overwhelm, and as an entrepreneur, I began to recognize it when I was levelling-up. For example: Being on podcasts as an...
